On September 7, 2008, Dr. Timothy P Shriver, Chairman and CEO of Special Olympics and Mr. Brady Lum, President and COO of SOI paid a visit to Beijing Shi Shahai sub-district community center for disabled people called Sweet Home.

Dr. Shriver, Mr. Lum and other visitors toured around the center and played Bocce and table tennis with the intellectually disabled people there. In the “work shop” for disabled people, the visitors watched handicrafts made by disabled people.

During visit, Dr. Shriver said he was deeply impressed by the achievements made by the disabled people, as well as by the confidence showed by the people. He stressed that SOI would continue to work with the government, local Special Olympics and other related organizations to bring the joy of sports to more people with disabilities and to bring hope to more families.

Shishahai Sweet Home was established in May 2006. It has complete and multifunctional indoor facilities, including a handcraft making workshop, which is intended for people with disabilities, a training room (computers there equipped with specially designed sunlight software), a reading room, a health care station, a day-care house and a nutritional and healthy food distribution dining hall. Shishahai Sweet Home for people with disabilities is a paradise where every person with disabilities can enjoy good service.
