SO Messenger "Granted" an Interview to US Vice President

Chen Cong with Mr. Biden

Ms. Yao Zhengfang, Vice Schoolmaster of Yang Ling Zi School in Hangzhou, was a little bit of headache after a whole night journey back from Idaho. However, Chen Cong, a former student of her, was so exciting that she didn’t close her eyes for a while.

That was because she \"granted” an interview to Mr. Biden, Vice President of the United States during her Special Olympics journey to US as the only SO Messenger from Mainland China (2007-2009). So many stories in her mind kept her out of tiredness through the way back home.

Back to May 2006, Chen joined “Leadership Programs” for national SO athletes and achieved number one in the training. She was confirmed by SOI as the only SO Messenger during 2007-2009 from Mainland China. But at that time, she had no idea about what the glory meant to her.

In February 2007, when she was invited to Messenger Training Program in Washington, she suddenly realized what a big pleasure it was: “Only 12 Messengers in the whole world!” During this period, she knew the other messengers from all over the world.

It was 2009 SO World Winter Games that Chen Cong came to US for the second time. She took out a pile of photos and pointed to a handsome African boy: “He was the torch runner of this games. He’s lovely and kind. Although I had to communicate with people through interpretor, I successfully made more friends. And I found myself prefer to speak to strangers.”

Ms. Yao was also satisfied with her. “Chen has done a great job. She has a good memory now. I think, if we could provide more chances to these children to meet more people and experience more events, many of them could be as good as Chen.”
