Special Olympics Unity Cup in South Africa

On Saturday, July 3rd, 16 Special Olympics athletes, football legends and celebs, took to the pitch at Cape Town stadium for the Special Olympics Unity Cup Presented by Coca-Cola. Keeping with the theme of “unity” the match fittingly ended in a 2-2 draw. All four goals in the match were scored by Special Olympics athletes.

The 2010 Global Congress Held Successfully |
|
Special Olympics is charting the future of the movement in our first worldwide Congress to carry forward the torch of Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Over 30 delegates from SOC, SOCT, SOHK, SOK and SOM attended this Global Congress attended by over 600 persons. After four days of inspiration, motivation and unity, the 2010 Special Olympics Global Congress ended with a spectacular closing ceremony and evening of activities.

Global Athlete Congress Held in Marrakech
|

June 6, 2010 the third Special Olympics Global Athlete Congress (GAC) happened in Marrakech bringing together 66 Special Olympics athletes from more than 35 countries. The athletes, who met throughout the day to discuss critical issues and the future of the movement, are also official delegates of the Special Olympics 2010 Global Congress.

SO Athlete Tina Jia at The 2010 Global Congress

Tina Jia, a Special Olympics athlete attended the 2010 Special Olympics Global Congress hosted in Marrakesh, Morocco which began on June 7th and lasted five days. At the Congress, she and other athletes discussed improvements and plans for the Special Olympics program for the next four to five years, raised awareness of the cause and shared their experiences with others.

SOEA Football Coaching Course Held in Qingdao |

On May 5th -11th, 2010, SOEA Football Coaching Course & CFG “D” Coaching Certificate Course was held in Qingdao, Shandong province. 17 football coaches from SO China, SO Chinese Taipei, SO Korea and SO Macau participated. And also, 18 local SO athletes were invited to participate in the practice course and had a competition with the coaches.

UBS SO Fan Club Unified Activities Held in Beijing

10 June, 2010, 20 volunteers from UBS Securities Beijing office paid visit to Beijing Tongzhou Special School and participated in the unified activities organized by Special Olympics East Asia with 20 Special Olympics athletes from the school. They enjoyed the interactive activities including the unified bocce, golf and table tennis as well as drawing.

Hong Kong Held 2010 Law Enforcement Torch Run

“The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics 2010” was held at the Sha Tin Town Hall Plaza on the 16th May, 2010. It was the 21st time for Special Olympics Hong Kong to launch this programme. Over 2300 participants joined this meaningful event and our donation has hit a new record reaching 2.1 million, which is the highest ever in 21 years.

34th Hong Kong Special Olympics Gymnastics Competition cum Rhythmic Gymnastics Fun Day was held on 18th June, 2010 which attracted more than 200 athletes coming from 14 special schools. Audiences were fascinated by the series of smooth and esthetic motions accomplished by the athletes and they praised with bursts of applause, which created a scene of bustle and excitement.

Liu Xiang and Joey Yung Attended World Expo Charity Gala Dinner

5 May 2010, the “My City, Our Dreams” Charity Gala Dinner was co-hosted by Shanghai Special-Care Foundation and Shanghai Corporate Pavilion, World Expo 2010 at Marriott Hotel. Celebrities from the culture and sports field attended the event. They included Liu Xiang, Nakata, Sa Dingding, Joey Yung, Qin Yi and Stanley Tong. Estimated RMB880,000 was raised. According to the organizer, the money raised will be used to help the development of Special Olympics movement and the caring of the development of the Special Olympics athletes.

Fans from Cultural Sector: Beijing International Movie Festival Supports Special Olympics

Beijing International Movie Festival (BIMF) held from 2010 June 7 to 30 in Beijing. BIMF included SO logos in its promotion materials and on-site banners while SO promotion material “Skeleton” was being shown in each screening. Public Awareness of SO was enhanced; over 10,000 audiences were covered.

International Volunteer Experiences: Everyone Can Become A Fan of Special Olympics |

On June 19th 2010, the East Asia region of the Special Olympics took part in a Sports Day hosted by the Hong Kong Chamber of Commerce in China at the Canadian International School in Beijing. Under the hot summer sun, volunteers and Special Olympic staff members helped lure passersby to partake in a golf putting game after they signed up as fans of the Special Olympics.
