The Special Olympics World Games are often referred to as our movement’s pinnacle event. The leaders, athletes, coaches and family members from our Special Olympics East Asia region certainly were a big part in helping these games live up to this lofty ambition.
As I watched the athletes from our region compete, I was inspired by their performance and their sportsmanship. The coaching they have received is a tribute to the attention each of the Programs place on the quality of experience for each attending athlete. This year we will conduct a Senior Train the Trainer course for our region in an effort to raise the level of coaching all our athletes receive. Read More... |

Sponsor Spotlight: that's Beijing |
|

Michael Wester, General Manager of that's Beijing, provided Special Olympics with a unique opportunity in March. That's Beijing revamped their website (www.thatsbj.com) and offered Special Olympics a free banner ad on their new site for the month of March.
This was a great chance for the online community in Beijing to learn more about Special Olympics programs and was a factor in increasing traffic to our regional website. The website will continue to run our banner ad on a pro bono basis when space allows. More... |

Volunteer Spotlight: Freda Fung |
|
Anyone who attended our Special Olympics Very Special Christmas Gala in Beijing in 2002 or 2004 can vouch for Freda Fung's passion for Special Olympics. Freda was the auctioneer for these two fund-raising balls, convincing bidders to increase their bids by doling out Special Olympics facts and figures: " Help us reach our goal of 500,000 athletes in China by the end of 2005!" With her great assistance, these two balls raised more than $120,000 USD for Special Olympics China.
The 2002 Charity Ball was the first time Freda volunteered for Special Olympics, and she has continued to support the Movement in many ways. At the time of the 2002 Gala, Freda was employed at Walt Disney China and in addition to acting as our live auctioneer, she secured silent auction prizes from Disney as well as introduce Disney executives to the Special Olympics Movement.
