Summer is here and special education schools and many Special Olympics athletes will be on summer holiday soon. However, there continues to be plenty Special Olympics related activities thanks to our corporate sponsors!
Thanks to the Swiss Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chinese Business Council, both in Beijing, Special Olympics East Asia was able to further educate and inform the public about our programs and activities. SwissCham held an outdoor Country Fair in June and announced that their September charity gala would benefit Special Olympics. Read More... |

Sponsor Spotlight: Foreign National Chambers of Beijing |

Special Olympics was the beneficiary of the Foreign National Chambers (FNC) networking extravaganza held at Factory 798 in Beijing's Dashanzi art district on April 22, 2005. This event, organized by SwissCham on behalf of the FNC, brought together over 900 guests from 19 supporting chambers in Beijing.
Tickets for the event enabled guests to win some great prizes at the event, but even more importantly for many, proceeds from tickets sales raised 30,000RMB for Special Olympics! Continue... |

Volunteer Spotlight: Ashley Boucher |

Ashley Boucher has been a volunteer with Special Olympics by participating in several Unified Sports activities via her former school, Western Academy of Beijing (WAB). At 16-years-old, Ashley is one of SOEA's youngest volunteers but has already made an impact on our Movement.
Like many of our volunteers, Ashley had an "a-ha" moment while interacting with Special Olympics athletes. While participating in the Special Olympics basketball program at WAB, Ashley was in charge of the shooting drill in which Special Olympics athletes had to shoot and score as many baskets as possible within one minute. Athlete Spotlight: Zhang Ping |
|
Zhang Ping was one of 5 Special Olympics East Asia athletes attending the Special Olympics Global Athlete Congress in Panama City during June 6 to June 8, 2005. Zhang Ping has competed in several Special Olympics China national competitions, including 2 national floor hockey competitions. He also won a gold medal in powerlifting at the 3rd Special Olympics China national games in Xi'an in 2002.
Zhang Ping describes his experience at the Global Athlete Congress: "I learned many things, allowing me to better understand the philosophy and mission of Special Olympics, as well as the regulations of competitions." Read More...

2005 Global Athlete Congress |

The Special Olympics Global Athlete Congress was held in Panama City at the City of Knowledge from 6 June through 8 June, uniting 67 Special Olympics athletes from 35 countries and regions. Special Olympics East Asia was well represented, with Tam Wai Yip of Special Olympics Hong Kong, Peter Wang Tzu Ang from Special Olympics Chinese Taipei, and Zhang Ping, Jia Sirui and Xu Chuang from Special Olympics China in attendance.
