MD Message: July 2005 |
Even with schools out for the summer, July was an exciting and busy month for Special Olympics East Asia.
Thanks to the NBA and McDonald's, Special Olympics athletes in Beijing had the most amazing opportunity to hone their basketball skills with some NBA superstars! The NBA's Basketball without Borders Asia program kicked off with a skills clinic for Special Olympics on July 15, which was sponsored by McDonald's. The athletes were so excited to meet and learn from their idols, especially from Yao Ming, a Special Olympics Global Ambassador! A few Special Olympics athletes also got to meet Kyle Korver in a special meet and greet session at a McDonald's restaurant after the clinic. NBA and McDonald's helped many of our athletes' dreams come true this past month and we can't thank them enough! Read More... |

Lions Club Int'l Conducts Historic Opening Eyes Program in HK |
On June 28, a Special Olympics - Lions Clubs International Opening Eyes screening was held in Hong Kong . The event provided vision screenings for almost 100 athletes from Special Olympics Hong Kong and would have been a relatively routine event with the exception that it was held in conjunction with the 88 th Lions Clubs International Convention. This screening marked the first time that a service project was implemented on the floor of the International Convention. It provided an opportunity for all 22,000 delegation attendees from around the world to see, first hand, how the Lions Clubs International Foundation was supporting the health of Special Olympics athletes. Sponsor Spotlight: STAR TV |
STAR TV, News Corporation's wholly-owned subsidiary, has been one of Special Olympics East Asia's oldest and most generous sponsors. Their sponsorship of SOEA began with their temporary donation of office space and supplies during our preparation for the Millenium March in the year 2000. STAR TV also sponsored a celebratory dinner at the conclusion of the Millenium March. Their donation of office space, supplies and support staff time was originally temporary, but has continued to this day. This ongoing donation makes it possible for Special Olympics East Asia to work much more effectively for its athletes and programs.
In addition to the generous office support, STAR TV has also supported Special Olympics in other ways. Continue... |
