Athlete Spotlight: Li Bo
April, 2005

Although Li Bo graduated from Chongwen Special School in 1999, he continues to be involved in Special Olympics activities and competitions. Li Bo has competed in athletics (track & field events), bocce, golf, basketball, football, table tennis and floor hockey. Turning 21-years-old this year, he has already achieved many accomplishments, earning several medals in Special Olympics China national basketball and floor hockey competitions.

His time in Special Olympics has also seen him grow into a leader. Li Bo was the Beijing team leader in the Special Olympics China national floor hockey competition in Qingdao, which took place in November 2004.

When he is not training or competing, Li Bo still keeps himself very busy. After graduating from Chongwen Special School, he stayed on as an assistant to help train other Special Olympics athletes in the district, working with Special Olympics Coach Zhang Yucai.

In January of this year, Li Bo started working part-time at Western Academy of Beijing (WAB) in their gym department. Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Li Bo assists the WAB gym teachers, helping to set up the various sports equipment. Li Bo commented, "I enjoy working at WAB very much. I have many friends there." His love of sports has pervaded almost every aspect of his life, as evidenced in his continued participation in Special Olympics competitions and in his daily work WAB and Chongwen Special School!
