More than 500 people attended the 2nd Annual American Chamber of Commerce Shanghai Charity Ball benefiting Special Olympics on March 20, 2004 in Shanghai. Members of the Shanghai business community dressed in black tie and put on hats of every size and shape to attend this now annual charity event. Themed as "Hats on Parade", the night featured a silent auction to raise money for Special Olympics programming and the 2007 World Summer Games. But the highlight of the evening was the live auction which featured a trip to Brunei, tickets to an NBA preseason game being held in Shanghai in October, as well as an autographed Yao Ming basketball jersey. Due to the strong support of the Shanghai American business community, the event raised over US$54,000 bringing the total amount AmCham Shanghai has contributed to Special Olympics to over US$126,000.
