| Shanghai , China , December 2006 ----- The Games Steering Committee (GSC) of the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games and Special Olympics Inc. (SOI) jointly held the TV Rebroadcast Summit in Shanghai .
Officials from Special Olympics China, Special Olympics International, China Central Television (CCTV), the Shanghai Media Group (SMG), ESPN/Star Sport, Phoenix and Sun Television all presented during the summit. The organizations exchanged views on television program production and rebroadcast during the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games. At the press conference, Dr. Derong Shi, Chief Executive Officer of the 2007 Special Olympics World Games Executive Committee said, "We are thrilled about the collaboration with these leading media partners as it is a significant platform to showcase this competition to the world. The powerful promotion and the live broadcast of the games on these networks gives millions of viewers an opportunity to witness a strong and energetic China in the area of sports, economy, entertainment and humanism. Moreover, we hope the television ratings and global rebroadcast coverage of the 2007 World Games could establish a new era in Special Olympics history.” CCTV Sports Center and ESPN/Star Sports will televise Special Olympics games to audiences all over the world. The two television networks will not only cover the 10-day games, but also provide highlights of the games and feature inspiring stories of Special Olympics athletes. The Shanghai Media Group will produce and air the closing ceremony of the sports event. Sun Television, Phoenix Televsion and Star Group are also committed to producing and broadcasting various programs featured on the 2007 World Summer Games.
In October 2007, Shanghai , China will be the stage for the Special Olympics World Summer Games, bringing together 20,000 to 30,000 athletes, coaches, family members and supporters from 170 countries around the world, celebrating the abilities and potential of people with intellectual disabilities. The Games promise to be the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world next year, less than one year prior to the Olympic games scheduled for Beijing in 2008. |
