Representative Patrick Kennedy of Rhode Island visited the Special Olympics Chinese Taipei office during a visit to Taiwan. Special Olympics Chinese Taipei Board Chairman and legislator Apollo Chen and National Director James Chen gave a briefing on the activities of Special Olympics to Representative Kennedy and his delegation. Representative Kennedy donated US$5,000 to the national Program on behalf of the state of Rhode Island to further work in the area of family support. Representative Kennedy was also in Taiwan to thank the Taiwanese people for the gift of two dragon boats to Rhode Island. Special Olympics Chinese Taipei and Representative Kennedy agreed that Special Olympics should consider dragon boat racing as a possible new event and that Unified Sports ? would be a good way to move this project forward.
