Special Olympics tennis coaches Glenn Roswal, Nancy Hoekstra, Vicky Matarazzo, Adam Gardner, and Marc White joined legendary tennis teacher Dennis Van der Meer at the 2004 Professional Tennis Registry International Symposium on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. The coaches presented Special Olympics tennis to PTR tennis professionals from around the world. The PTR is the "Official Training Partner" for Special Olympics and is committed to the growth of Special Olympics tennis. The PTR currently hosts the Special Olympics Southeast Region USA Tennis Championships and has launched a program to match PTR tennis professionals with local Special Olympics programs.
At the Symposium, Gardner was presented with the prestigious PTR Volunteer of the Year Award, earned for his efforts in promoting Special Olympics in Shanghai. Adam helped conduct a clinic with Special Olympics athletes and Lleyton Hewitt to launch Special Olympics tennis in China. Later, he co-organized with Marc White the Shanghai Racquet Club Charity Tournament, which supports Special Olympics China. He also conducted a clinic as part of the Laureus Sport for Good Day at Lu jai Zui Special Olympics. Adam and Marc are currently leading the growth of Special Olympics tennis in Shanghai.
