Beijing, March 18 - Special Olympics athlete Judy Yang thanked News Corporation CEO Rupert Murdoch on Friday, March 18, 2005 in Beijing for their continued support and help to the Special Olympics Movement. News Corporation donates office space, supplies and office support staff time to Special Olympics East Asia in Beijing. This ongoing donation makes it possible for Special Olympics East Asia to work much more effectively for its athletes and programs. In addition to the generous office donations, News Corporation and Star, News Corporation’s wholly-owned subsidiary, have also supported Special Olympics in other ways. Senior management have assisted with consultation on media relationships and film documentation. Star TV has also provided extensive television exposure for Special Olympics in China. In the Fall of 2004, Star TV adopted Ping Gu Special School in Beijing and supported our model university project. They did this by making a 40,000RMB contribution to Special Olympics in lieu of the traditional practice of sending out mooncakes during the Mid-Autumn moon festival. Also, many News Corporation and Star staff in Beijing frequently volunteer for various Special Olympics events.
Judy showed Mr Murdoch the Chinese version of Seventeen Magazine in which she graced the cover and was featured. Mr Murdoch was impressed when he heard that this was the first time a Special Olympics athlete anywhere was on the cover of Seventeen Magazine. Judy also presented Mr Murdoch with a gift of a crystal box with the Special Olympics logo inscribed on it.
Special Olympics was delighted to have the opportunity to publicly thank Mr Murdoch, News Corporation and Star for their kind donations and support!
