Special Olympics East Asia Managing Director, Mr George Smith was present at the event, and commended Intel on its long-term commitment to support the Special Olympics, saying "We are grateful to the Intel family for their longstanding commitment to Special Olympics worldwide. Our relationship with Intel is very powerful for our athletes and our movement. As part of their 20th anniversary in China , Intel is committing a significant contribution of not only funds, but also volunteer support to help us provide more sports opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. In addition, these March for the Future events are a great platform to spread the message about our athletes, further leading to their acceptance and inclusion into communities and society as a whole."

This morning's event started at 9am, with more than 5,000 runners participating in the event. The carnival following the event rewarded runners and supporters with fun and refreshments, and included community activities such as an interactive picture wall display, hand and face painting, as well as a kids' charity art auction. The colorful Carnival brought together the community and enabled families and children to enjoy a healthy day of sports, fun and leisure that lasted until 1pm.

The March for Future charity event highlighted that participants are "Part of IT": part of the development of China and an integral and active part of the community. Intel believes that The March for the Future charity event will support and enhance the work and mission of the Special Olympics committee, and spread its development in China.

Today's successful 5km charity run and carnival initiated by Intel, will last through November with similar events and activities held in Shanghai and Chengdu.

Corporate Social Responsibility: Investing in Community Development

Intel is dedicated to the society and community in which it operates, and believes that corporations have a responsibility to be engaged locally to create balanced and harmonious societies. Apart from being a proud sponsor of the March for the Future and Special Olympics, Intel is also deeply involved in promoting science education and technology literacy in China. Over the past two decades Intel has dedicated itself to a series of education and community care initiatives. The Intel Teach Program, for example, has provided China 's teachers with technology training to help them incorporate essential technology skills into their curriculum, while the Intel Learn Program has helped build technology literacy and 21st Century skills for youth living in communities with limited access to technology. Intel's International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) is set to encourage Chinese students to participate in technology innovation exchanges at the local and international level. To further these initiatives and the company's direct involvement in enhancing society, Intel employees are also deeply involved in their communities through volunteer programs, like Shanghai 's Walk into Community initiative dedicated to helping build-up a balanced and harmonious society.
