Otellini was on hand at the celebrations and made the exciting announcement that Intel will be organizing a “March for the Future” charity run later this year. The event, which will be organized by Intel’s volunteer program Intel Involve, will raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics in China.

Intel already has a history of support for Special Olympics in the region. During 2002-2005, Intel has made donations in the amount of approximately US$40,000 to Special Olympics in China. They made a cash donation in support of Phase I and II of the ongoing Special Olympics East Asia (SOEA) Information Technology Initiative. Thanks to this donation, SOEA was able to create its own website (www.specialolympicseastasia.org) and benefit from computer training sessions in Phase I. The computer training sessions were led by IT-trained volunteers from Intel and were held in Intel facilities. Special Olympics staff from 6 cities and provinces around China were able to benefit from these sessions.
For Phase II, e-learning modules will be created and more computer training sessions will be held for local Special Olympics and Disabled Persons’ Federation offices around China. Intel also introduced SOEA to some of its OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) partners, including Foundertech who then donated 25 laptops to us.

The “March for the Future” charity run will involve Intel volunteers and the general public and will be a fun and unique way to raise funds, as well as awareness for Special Olympics. Intel has been a key supporter for Special Olympics during the past few years and is certain to remain a significant corporate partner for years to come.
