Each Special Olympics Program in East Asia conducts competitions at local, municipal, provincial, and national levels.  The region, as a whole, participates in region-level competitions and each Program also sends athletes to attend and compete in the Special Olympics World Summer and Winter Games.

In 2003, the region's Programs sent athletes to Dublin, Ireland to participate in the Special Olympics World Summer Games.  Despite significant travel challenges posed by the SARS epidemic, athletes from each Program were able to compete with Special Olympics athletes from around the world in Dublin.
