Special Olympics China was established in 1985 and over the course of 20 years has grown to include over 400,000 participating athletes. SO China is headquartered in Beijing and serves as the national center of operations for the Special Olympics Movement in China. Training, activities, and competitions are conducted in China's 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities. Athletes from Special Olympics China have participated in Special Olympics World Games since 1987 and the city of Shanghai will host the 2007 Special Olympics World Summer Games.
